What is E-Filing?

Electronic Filing, commonly known as e-filing, is a process of filing corporate governance documents with the government by electronic means rather than manually.

Some traditional and manual forms of filing corporate governance documents include:

  • going to the government office, standing in line and filing documents in person
  • sending corporate governance documents by mail to the appropriate government address with a cheque for payment

With e-filing you never have to leave your desk. Most corporate governance documents can simply be filed directly with the government securely over the internet. Best of all, the response times are usually as quick as just a few minutes!

E-filing support varies by jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Some jurisdictions support comprehensive e-filing for all corporate actions whereas others only allow for certain types of e-filing, such as incorporations but not corporate dissolutions.
